Although its opening was on Thursday, February 19, the value of this exhibition is well worth until next Sunday, March 22. The candidacy of Las Fallas as intangible cultural heritage of humanity is one of the objectives to raise fallas to the category they deserve by the authorities, as visible head of the JCF – Central Fallera Board and City council of VLC. And this exhibition is a collection of graphics and other media that wants to endorse the inherited wealth and development of Las Fallas. More than a hundred photographs, books, manuscripts and objects related to the feast as fallera bands, combs, jewelry and even dolls complete the legacy of the bibliophile Rafael Solaz has coordinated.
The photographs range from 19th century until the decade of the sixties of the 20th century with topics of all kinds of fallas, are official or staircase, schoolyards or house interiors. They are also advertising reproductions related to Las Fallas and even reproductions of stamps, artistic workshops, stalls of doughnuts beginning of century, sewing of regional costumes, pyrotechnics or the most important events of the Fallas calendar…
Solaz is specialist in Valencia and he has in property nearly eleven thousand volumes that exist in particular library and his collection of over five thousand old photos always related to Valencian themes. He´s a scholar on the subject having been the author of several books, some of which are published by the city of Valencia.
